Every ROOTED retreat gives back to the Zimbabwean communities that make these journeys possible. This is not charity added on at the end. It is woven into every booking, every meal and every conversation around the fire.
Our Commitment
ROOTED was built on the belief that wellness and generosity are the same thread. You cannot heal yourself while the ground beneath you suffers.
Founder Tanya Mudariki grew up in Zimbabwe watching grandmothers heal with herbs, communities raise children together and the land feed everyone who respected it. ROOTED exists to honour that reciprocity. Every guest who arrives becomes part of it.
Four Pillars
Every retreat sponsors school fees, books and uniforms for children in rural Hwange. We partner with local headmasters to identify students whose potential outweighs their means. To date, guests have funded full academic years for over forty young people.
ROOTED hires locally and pays fairly. Our trackers, chefs, housekeeping teams, drivers and guides come from the communities that surround our lodges. We also train young adults in hospitality, wellness and conservation skills that travel far beyond one season.
A percentage of every booking goes directly to anti poaching patrols, waterhole maintenance and wildlife corridor preservation in Hwange National Park. Our guests do not just observe the land. They help protect it.
We buy from local farmers, commission artisans and stock our welcome kits with products made by Zimbabwean cooperatives. From hand woven textiles to indigenous skincare, every retreat circulates revenue through the regional economy.

How It Works
When you book a ROOTED retreat, a portion of your investment is allocated directly to our community partners in Zimbabwe. You do not donate extra. You do not opt in. It happens because you chose to be here. Our guests are not tourists passing through. They are participants in a long term relationship between wellness and social good.
The Roots Retreat
Our homecoming in Hwange funds the largest share of local school sponsorships and anti poaching patrols. Every guest sponsors one full term of education.
The Sage Journey
Our Kenya journey extends the model to Laikipia conservancies, supporting Samburu women's cooperatives and rewilding projects across the highlands.

Our shorter South Africa retreat channels contributions into community health clinics and youth craft programmes in the Sabi Sand region.
